Description
The HPE Smart Array P408i-a is an enterprise-grade internal storage controller integrated into selected HPE ProLiant Gen10 server platforms. It is designed to provide hardware RAID functionality and centralized management of internal SAS and SATA storage devices.
The controller supports 12Gb/s SAS technology and is compatible with supported SAS and SATA hard disk drives and solid-state drives. By performing RAID calculations through dedicated controller hardware, the P408i-a helps reduce storage-management overhead on the host system while providing consistent storage performance.
The P408i-a features 2GB Flash-Backed Write Cache (FBWC). This cache can improve write performance while helping preserve cached data during a power interruption when the appropriate cache-protection configuration is present.
Supported RAID configurations include RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, and 60, providing flexibility for applications requiring different combinations of performance, capacity, and data protection.
The controller also supports enterprise storage-management functions such as online capacity expansion, online RAID-level migration, spare-drive management, drive roaming, and predictive failure monitoring. These capabilities help administrators maintain and scale server storage while minimizing operational disruption.
